Ryan Woods Memorial Uptown Village Mural
A mural created by the Downtown community in Vancouver, Washington in dedication to our dear friend Ryan Woods and his family. Ryan has terminal cancer and has been given 3-6 months to live. This gesture of love was sparked by the movement that Ryan started and will continue to live on for a long time to come.
Ryan Woods was a community activist in Uptown Village (there is a city award now named after him: http://www.cityofvancouver.us/cmo/page/ryan-woods-grassroots-community-award). He died of brain cancer, leaving a wife and two children behind. After he was diagnosed as terminal, I suggested the idea of a mural to a few friends and we worked tirelessly all through the night for two nights in a row while him and his wife were out of town visiting family. When they returned, there was a big group of us waiting by the mural to surprise them. We wanted to paint it as a reminder of Ryan’s love for community in hopes it would inspire others. 🙂 Let me know if you need any other info on it!
Here is a video I created of the making of the mural: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjYEcut7W0k
